Pepperoni Pizza

For a little over 6 months, I ate nothing but pizza.  Ask me what I wanted to eat for dinner and I would think, “Pizza”.   Nothing would satisfy the craving.   The problem was, I couldn’t find a place in town that had exactly what I was looking for.  I wanted New York style, extra large pieces of pizza with just the right amount of gooey cheese, crispy pepperoni and sauce.   Then one day I found it.  Oddly enough, I found it at a casino here in Vegas.  And it is perfect.  Now if I can only figure out how to keep my perfect pizza hot on the long drive home!

Americans eat about 350 pieces of pizza per second!  I definitely contribute to that number at least twice a week.  Pizza isn’t fancy, so the wine shouldn’t be either.  One of the basic food & wine pairing principles is to pair wine with food from the same place.  So Italian food…Italian wine!  Chianti is acidic, helping the wine to stand up to the tomato sauce, and tannic, which gives the wine a backbone against the meaty pepperoni.  The wine ends up feeling smooth going down and brings forth the flavor of the food.  I also enjoy a chilled Syrah Rose.  The Rose brings out the spiciness of the pepperoni and also stands up to the acid in food.  Both wines won't disappoint!
