What was the best part about camping?  Smores!  After searching for the perfect stick, everyone gathered around to watch their marshmallow drip and catch on fire just before you smothered it on a piece of chocolate and 2 gram crackers!  We’d crack up watching each other loose a marshmallow in the fire pit!   Awh, good times!  Now-a-days you don’t have to go camping to enjoy Smores.  The stovetop works just fine, and from experience…the marshmallows clean right up!

For a dessert like Smores, I like a 10yr old Tawny Port.  From trial and error, this seems to be the best match.  Since chocolate is the component that stands out the most, it’s important to find a wine that works well with it.  Chocolate and Port are a perfect match.  They are both bitter and sweet.  The nutty and caramel flavors of the 10yr aged Port pair wonderfully with the chocolate and the burnt edges of the marshmallow.  Plus, the Port has enough acidity to cut through the creaminess of the marshmallows and prepare the mouth for that next amazing bite!

I also enjoy Banyuls and Brachetto d'Acqui with Smores!!
