Every now and again, I crave a Snickers® bar. It gets so bad that I've even licked the last little bit of caramel off the wrapper! Of course, being the wine lover that I am, I have to add a glass of vino to make this snack complete.
Gruet Sparkling Rose is an excellent wine to pair with Snickers® "Dark". The wine is from Albuquerque, New Mexico and made using the champagne method. You will know this because the wine has the words "Methode Champenoise" on the label. What this really means to you, the consumer, is that the wine is well made and the bubbles weren't injected into it like filling up a bicycle tire. The wine is dry (almost no sugar), pink and bubbly with notes of strawberry, raspberry, cherry and flowers. I prefer the dark chocolate Snickers® with this wine because the bitterness of both the chocolate and wine mirror each other. After a bite of the food and then a sip of the wine, you'll notice a flavor spring forth that is reminiscent of chocolate covered cherries. The flavor of the nuts make an appearance next and the wine's acidity matches the saltiness of the candy bar. The wine has a round, creamy texture on the palate that mirrors the creaminess of the Snickers®. Finally, the bubbles and acidity help to wash all the flavors off the palate and help you to devour the snack in seconds! Enjoy!
If you're local to Las Vegas, Gruet Sparking Rose is available at Khoury's Fine Wine & Spirits and retails for around $16
