What to do with all those leftover candy canes you hung from your Christmas tree...enjoy them with a glass of wine, of course!
I always have a ton of candy canes used to decorate my tree and had the bright idea to pair them with the good stuff, vino! That's when my next bright idea came. Why not create my very own version of a wine inspired peppermint mocha with candy canes and the Chocolate Shop, "The Chocolate Lover's Wine?" Although it lacks the caffeine I crave, this red wine flavored with natural dark chocolate speaks to my heart in other ways...did I mention chocolate...did I mention wine?? OK, you get it!
After several licks of the candy cane and then a sip of the wine, I forget exactly what it is I'm eating and my mind shoots to visions of Andes Crème de Menthe's with a splash of black cherry. My grandma always had Andes mints in the house when I was a kid. I would sneak a few before supper even though that was totally forbidden. Hence, why I was always on the naughty list;)~ Both are sweet, but I should point out that at 12.5% ABV., the wine does a nice job of not being overtly cloying against the film of sugar left on the tongue by the candy cane. The pairing was so fun that I've decided it's going to be a new holiday tradition! Cheers!
