Egg Salad Sandwich with Wine


The Story:

I've always wondered how Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny survive off one day of work a year?  Granted, on that one day they work harder than we have in an entire life, it still seems odd to me...

Now,  you might be thinking the Easter Bunny eats carrots, but he actually loves EGG salad sandwiches.  Yes, he confided in me personally.  And what's more, he's an avid wine lover...which is how we linked up. He asked if I could pair wine with his favorite dish?  So here you have it!

The Pairing:

I chose a bottle of the 2010 Papolle Domaine de Quatre C white blend from the Armagnac region of France to pair with an egg salad sandwich.  The wine is a blend of the Colombard, Ugni Blanc and Sauvingon Blanc grapes.  Wine geeks will love it and Sauvignon Blanc lovers should definitely give it a try.  Plus, since the wine is only priced at $9.99, I think the Easter bunny can hustle up enough change to afford it.

Quatre C offers aromas of grapefruit, honey, lemongrass, fresh herbs and a touch of minerality.  After a bite of the sandwich and then a sip of the wine, I notice how the wine's exotic fruit flavors offset the tangy mustard.  The green notes in the wine marry nicely with the celery and dill as well. I also notice how well the weight of the wine works against the heaviness of the dish, yet also has wonderful acidiLty that helps to cleanse the palate and prolong the flavor of the egg salad.  This Easter, if you're trying to figure out what to do with all those leftover eggs, follow what the Easter bunny does and grab a bottle of vino!  Cheers and Happy Easter!
