I recently paired Starbuck's mini cherry pie with Domaine La Tour Vieille 2008 Banyuls Rimage Mise Tardive, a dessert wine from the Languedoc region of France. Sounds like a mouthful, right?
You're either in the camp that can't wait for it or the ones that waits until the very last minute to file it. I'm talking about taxes, the day Uncle Sam officially wants his dough. As April 17th rolls closer, some of us are sweating shotgun size bullets trying to figure out how much we owe the government and how the Hell we're going to make fake receipts. Others, referred to as psychopaths by Jimmy Kimmel, sent their tax return off the second they received their W-2s, hoping to write-off any little thing possible to receive a higher return. When the tax preparer asks these people any questions, the answer is always yes. Did you move this year? Yes. Do you have six dependents? Yes. Did you donate money to charity? Yes. Then, they cross their fingers and toes praying they don't get audited. Heck, Uncle Sam is our rich uncle and we're his favorite niece;)
Now, for those of you who do get money back from the government, consider yourself lucky. For everyone else in the world, I figured I'd give you a little luck you didn't see coming in the form of the 2010 Lucky Star Pinot Noir from California. Lucky Star is made up of 90% Pinot Noir and 10% Zinfandel. Although the wine tastes like a $15-$20 bottle, it's priced at $8.95. Even if you go homeless after your taxes, you can still round up enough change to afford that! And if you're starving, the wine tastes likes raspberries, strawberries and cherries mixed with a crispy piece of bacon, cola, herbs and then a chocolate note on the end. Sounds like a balanced meal to me! The wine is extremely fruit forward and easy to drink. If you're smart, you should ask for spare change outside a Burger King restaurant and then try the wine with their new bacon sundae. Cheers to drinking the good stuff no matter what your situation!

You found someone to get fat and cuddly with over the holidays. But let’s face it, summer is just months away and they've served their purpose. Here’s how to trim that extra fat by picking the perfect wine to breakup with him or her. Besides, they didn't meet your parents anyway.
So you don't want to break their heart? I have the perfect solution! Leave a "Dear John" letter accompanied by a glass of the 2008 Towbin James "Liquid Love" Late Harvest Zinfandel from Paso Robles, California on the counter next to your key. Whatever you do, don't smear a lipstick stained kiss on the note or spray it with perfume...this creates stalkers.
Once they take a sip of the wine, they'll start to feel better. Alcohol has a quick numbing effect and at 17.2% abv, this wine is sure to ease the pain. Plus, Liquid Love is full of raspberry jam mixed with fig, prune, black pepper, milk chocolate and a dried meat quality that reminds me of salami. Who would be upset with that? On the palate, the wine boasts flavors of cherry jam, dried tobacco, black pepper and milk chocolate. Liquid Love is also soft and sweet due to the grapes hanging on the vines late into the season. We can only hope your soon to be ex won't want to hang on, too!
P.S. This wine works even if you're the one getting dumped. Take two sips and tell me you don't feel better? Plus, it's amazing with chocolate, something I'm sure you'll be indulging in after a breakup! And one final word of advice...delete them from your friend list. Cheers to being single!
